The ‘Bridgerton’ season 2 trailer is here and it is HOT HOT HOT

If you thought all of the quippy, sexy banter and heart-stopping scenes that make Bridgerton, well, Bridgerton were limited to just its first season—well, think again. Because the full trailer for season two was released today and for fans of the show (and the books), it’s utter perfection.

While the first season focused solely on eldest daughter Daphne Bridgerton’s love story, the second season is entirely devoted to Bridgerton patriarch and eldest brother Anthony’s romantic pursuits. We meet the Sharma sisters, both of whom unintentionally vie for his affections in their own way.

Anthony is looking for a wife simply to fulfill his family duty, and settles on Edwina Sharma. But anyone who wishes to court Edwina has to first get the approval of her sister, Kate. (If you like Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You, you’ll love this new season’s plot.)

And for fans of Pride and Prejudice adaptations—both the classic Colin Firth BBC version and the breathtaking 2005 film with Kiera Knightley—there are more than a few nods to the beloved Jane Austen story in this trailer. (The wet shirt and hand-grazing, amiright? If you know, you know.)

Lady Whistledown is back and more cunning than ever, as Queen Charlotte appears to be hot on Penelope Featherington’s anonymous trail. And, as always, the costumes and scenery are totally swoon-worthy.

While the love scenes in this show practically broke the internet in December 2020, and that admiration is certainly well-deserved, the writing, performances, and intertwining storylines are nothing short of brilliant. To discount a series based on romance novels is to discount the fact that women are at the heart of this type of entertainment—when is the last time you heard a man use the phrase “guilty pleasure” about something he enjoys? There’s no shame in the romance game, folks. There’s a reason it’s the highest-selling fiction genre, after all.

As someone who has read all of the Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn, the Kate and Anthony book was always my favorite. The verbal sparring is an A+ component of the enemies-to-lovers trope, and these two characters hit it out of the park. While Anthony’s quest for Edwina’s hand in marriage is ill-fated, his emerging feelings for Kate and their scorching chemistry more than makes up for it.

But will Anthony admit that marriage doesn’t have to be all duty with no love? Lady Whistledown puts it perfectly in the voice-over, “What happens when duty is in conflict with the heart’s true desire? Why, then there is the potential for a considerable scandal indeed.”

The second season of Bridgerton premieres on Netflix on March 25. That gives everyone plenty of time to get their smelling salts and swooning fans ready.
